The Snowman and the Snowdog is an animated short film, and sequel to The Snowman. It was created to mark the 30th anniversary of the original short film The Snowman of 1982. Composer Howard Blake of that 1982 film didn't return (though expressing his desire to faithfully recapture his magical tunes). Instead composer Ilan Eshkeri and former Razorlight drummer Andy Burrows were brought on board. Their combination is definitely a delightful success, capturing the pleasantness, magic and sweet nature of The Snowman. A new song, the magical "Light the Night" gets several prime time moments in the soundtrack, and showcases the treat of flying. The treat is also the orchestration and orchestral accompaniment during these songs (also during "Hometown (Flying Home)") and both are just perfect for the magical nature of the film. But what's also magical is Eshkeri's music, delivering perhaps one of the MOST PLEASANT Christmas tunes ever composed. "Building the Snowman" is a delightful continuation of variations of the main theme, and gets solo instrumental performances and light solo backings to really make your Christmas day magical. In general, if your Christmas day is lacking some eggnog and pleasantness, The Snowman and The Snowdog is THE opportune score for you.

Enough magical moments for you further on, "Snowman Carnival" and "Flying Home" are just too damn lovely.
The songs are wonderful too, often accentuated by a lovely orchestral accompaniment.
