Mango Pachcha (2026)

Charan Raj

" it has sturdiness in directness and emotional reflections "

Written by Joep de Bruijn - Review of the music as heard in the movie

Mango Pachcha (2026) is an overpolished Canadian-language rise and fall crime story of a DVD shop owner, getting deep into organised drug affairs and dominating the local territory of Mysuru.

Charan Raj composed, arranged and programmed the background musical score, while also being one of five music producers, while being responsible for the main writing duties on most of the original songs and singing on one of them. These songs possess a weary urban, hip-hop approach, but in each, beyond the tedious lyrics, contain some details that align with the original score and film. The background (very Indian) score makes use of guitars, bass, ethnic plucked instruments, a trumpet and a series of well-arranged string sections, nadaswaram, flutes and splendid percussion.

Infrequently, small piano and traces of voices carve a bit of the undercurrent, a reflection of dramatic events that steer towards the fall of the protagonist, as the film changes format, devoid of some of its music video approach, offering longer singular shots and slow-motion sequences. The composer further employs traditional Indian instruments to underscore elements of the demise through ethereal and reflective musical cues, which are still too obvious and moderately interesting.

Raj original score does not offer anything remotely interesting, but it has sturdiness in directness and emotional reflections. It is wholeheartedly above average in the context of the film.
