Hito wa Naze Love Letter wo Kaku no ka
Taro Iwashiro
" Considering the overall score is unabashed but somehow engaging in expressing the wide variety of love and a sense of loss, there are issues "Written by Joep de Bruijn - Review of the regular release
After last year's 35-Nen-me no Rabu Retaa, Tarô Iwashiro returns with an original score for yet another dramatic true-story film regarding love letters, a sense of lingering sadness, the inclusion of modern text messages, and a bundle of clichés, called Hito wa naze raburetâ o kaku no ka? (Why Do People Write Love Letters?, 2026). In that sense, preferring that the quality of writing and the in-context use match the quality of the film or series, there is not a single Iwashiro effort, having seen 40 of them, that corresponds to that requirement. The film has just been released in theaters in Japan, but it is fairly certain that it will be a complete cliché upon future viewing.
Hito wa Naze Love Letter wo Kaku no ka original music is orchestral, using engaging strings, piano, (Celtic) woodwinds, and more to underscore the romantic drama. Considering the overall score is unabashed but somehow engaging in expressing the wide variety of love and a sense of loss, there are issues with this safe approach, mostly reserved for the piano. Especially as some basic piano modulations, sometimes subtly to overtly repetitive, harm the overall experience and become tiresome. They are also less obtrusively present in other layers of the entire orchestral palette. Despite this, the whole musical ambience and vibrations are technically flawless, as is the interplay between instruments, expressing the portions of the rather tiresome repetitiveness.
Still, the overall music is rather nice. The VAP Inc release is available on CD and on various streaming platforms.
