Glory
James Horner
" Glory Glory Hornerlujah! "Written by Thomas Glorieux - Review of the regular release
Glory is one of the earliest scores of James Horner where he could pour and unleash all his emotion onto the listener. The result is one of his best. A stirring dramatic tale of bravery and loss, Horner unleashes the entire orchestra and boys choir to give us listeners the chills. The emotional chills you received from him so many times. Yet somehow it feels like a faded memory if you start analyzing the crud of today. Back then it was standard to wow and move the audience, and Horner was in that craft one of the very best. 2 themes weave through one another. The most recurring one is the main theme, often heard by choir. The second is the direct descendant of Braveheart's theme, yet of course here the great great grandfather and the original one of the clan. Also present, a direct inspired clone of Carmina Burana ("Charging Fort Wagner") and one of the finest to do so. And if you still feel unimpressed by the effort of Horner, just listen to the bells and drums when they make movie magic happen ("A Call to Arms", the end of "Preparation for Battle"). Glory remains one of Horner's best, and at a pleasurable length of 43 minutes it's a swift emotional breeze through your afternoon. Highly recommended.
Emotional Horner is always one of the best Horner's to hear.
2 strong themes, one most for boys choir, the other the original Braveheart theme.
His Carmina Burana take is sooooo good. What a strong and original track for him.
When the mighty bells counter attack the drums, it's movie music heaven.
Not an 80 minute drag, but a 43 minute pleasing experience.
