Denshattack!

Denshattack! is a 2026 video game created by Spanish developer Undercoders. The game is reminiscent of older games, combining skateboarding and a unique and frenetic Japanese-animation-inspired appeal while being impressive in level design and game play. As the player is stimulated to perform advanced tricks while being on top of a train, interacting with the surroundings, the frenzied pace and creativeness can be avoided, slowing the game down by choosing simple tricks, by which it breaks with the strong aesthetic, preferable borderline insane, experience.

The original score is a calibration of a small team of main composers: the Canadian Sean Bialo (AKA CosmicGem), the Portuguese composer Andrew One (Andrew Gomes) and the Portuguese-American Tee Lopes. There are numerous additional (Japanese) composers, some such as Takenobu Mitsuyoshi (SEGA, Virtua Fighter), Richard Jacques (Jet Set Radio), Shoji Meguro (Persona), Harumi Fujita (Capcom, Final Fight, Daimakaimura), and Ryo Nagamatsu (Nintendo, Super Mario Galaxy 2), who all have excelled in scoring video games. Further on, musicians, artists, and (punk-rock) bands are contributing, probably or mostly, individual original pieces, some of whom have even contributed alternative albums based on original video game music. Additionally, there are occasional collaborations between some of the people credited, while the more experienced video game composers seek out further musicians to strengthen their compositions.

The overall music inherits a dynamic mix of breakbeat, hip hop, club music, funk, punk, electronic poppy Japanese music, and much more, which is surprisingly cohesive. Across all the music, an often ongoing challenge was to decide which instrument should be more dominant in favour of another in all the different compositions. There is almost not a single piece of music that is worth listening to separately, let alone the entire 80-track, nearly 4-hour release; it is a sensory-depriving experience to complete.

Just upon viewing a single minute of video game play, the appeal of all the music, with its diverse styles and sounds, is almost in perfect calibration to the exemplary experience the video game accomplishes. The music is not interactive, whereas the commentary, constantly complimenting you upon any trick, is, which, in its arcade approach, does harm the experience in context.
