Cobra Kai: Season 6 Part 3

Leo Birenberg and Zach Robinson

" Part 3 goes for the kill, albeit missing a thing or 2 "

Written by Thomas Glorieux - Review of the download only release

And here it is, the finale of finales. The moment the entire series have grown to. The end of Cobra Kai, a nostalgic memorable series paying tribute and honoring the films of the 80's, having all those characters return to their previous roles and giving them depth and feelings. Those 2 composers made sure the depth was felt and the emotion kept on coming. So too in this last part. The begin is nothing memorable, "Wrath of Kim" and "Tea" is sort of a closure for the Japan story surrounding Cobra Kai, having again the ethnic hints and low brooding music. The 80's tone is all over the place too, like the funny Cobra Kai / Miyagi Do theme in "F.I.G.H.T.", The wedding music Johnny style is another fun whailing piece of music in "Cobra Canon in D Major", all the while the song tradition ends with perhaps a perfect romantic crowd pleaser "Take my Breath Away", instrumental at least. But in the series, it was perfect because it was funny but above all heartbreaking how much we have come to love this cast, a wonderful high five to the casting and the actors who have grown so much in their role, becoming the best of the best.

The first of some action comes in "Blood and Iron", but it's "Skeletons" that created a lasting impression in the series. The first time I came in contact with the deepfake technology, having now the visual mastery to bring a deceased character to life. And listening to it does give me some goosebumps, paired with the visuals its another knock to the head. And so are the fights between the remaining fighters. The kiss Tory needed all comes together in her kick-ass round vs Zara in "Absolute Resolve: No Mercy Left", having another wonderful moment of non stop heroic action. Miguel's fight gets his epic conclusion in "Slither Final Form", while the epic conclusion between two former sensei's in "No Mercy for the Damned" is a non stop return to the Cobra Kai sound and the Silver sound. The ethnic panflutes remind us fondly of Mr Miyagi in "Pearl Necklace", while a culmination of themes in "The Valley's Own" is a fun nostalgic trip and the amazing "Strike of the Cobra" houses one of the most cool Cobra Kai theme statements.

But sometimes less said is more, and the beautiful absolutely beautiful piano moment in "Seperate Ways" houses another beautiful Sam theme statement. Yes I adore Mary Mouser and her theme is just perfect, and I love it when composers use themes to pinpoint a specific character every time they appear.

No illegal crane kick this time, Cobra Kai Season 6 part 3 is a bonafied masterful hit to end the series in astonishing fashion. The series have truly built to an absolute climax and I as a fan from the first hour couldn't be more thrilled. The music was a reason of that success, layered in that amazing sound of the 80's, fueled by an ever growing orchestral power and multiple Multiple themes. However musically the final season never got the treatment it deserved. Only digital releases, which is a bit of a letdown for the fans of the physical media. The epic conclusion and you're left with a digital print. Also, sometimes I have the feeling various tracks are missing. I know you can't present everything, but several tracks were glued to my subconciousness and seem to be missing, like a wonderful culmination of Tory and Robby training in Barcelona for instance. Sometimes this feels like an unfinished product. This is so sad, because sometimes I felt the previous seasons had too music music, and this one is lacking in parts. But in general, and if I'm speaking of the entire series, Leo Birenberg and Zach Robinson have done something truly amazing. They made the series from top to bodem a refreshing and breathtaking journey, it had balance and it showed no mercy. And in the end we all fell in love with William Zabka. Lesson learned.

The themes are heard all over the place, it's hard for me to even all find them.
Sometimes the dramatic music is so beautiful, like the amazing piano music at the end of the series.
The heroic music is sometimes amazing during the fights.
I feel highlights are absent. Could have given the 3rd part even more momentum.
