" most of the music is infelicitous "

Written by Joep de Bruijn - Review of the music as heard in the movie

Close Your Eyes Hind is a 2025 Dutch short film directed by the Dutch-Palestinian Amir Zaza. After tank fire kills her relatives, 5-year-old Hind Rajab and her cousin stay behind in a destroyed car in Gaza, surrounded by Israeli threat. In turmoil and intensity, made with limited but ultimately valuable resources, based on a true story, it is also meant to create social impact.

The music was composed by a German-based Syrian composer Rami Al Maghrbel. He uses the clarinet, oud, guitar, cello and sound design, addressing both the suffocating atmosphere and the dramatic human voice.

Yet, in its enactment of the original score, leveling between a sound design approach and, on paper, viable emotions, most of the music is infelicitous However, in a conversation between Hind and her cousin Layan, still in turmoil, the snared strings and woodwind underscore their stress-relieving conversation about what both dream of becoming, rather well.
