    Hi!
It took me a long time to post here, but eventually I did it. I do not know much about film music, but I love movies and I love music, so that’s a start. And I do know I’m blessed to know "God", for He will surely guide me wink

    Hi! I assume you're a friend of Bregt's?

In any case, welcome to the board. Don't worry about your level of knowledge. This is for everyone, and I'm sure it will be educational.
    I am extremely serious.
  6. Hi Kaat! Welcome on board!

So, it's our Dear Deity who brought you here, eh?
If you've been lurking here for a while you probably know most of the regulars here already. smile

Hope to see you around often!

Like I said, I don't know much about it, but I like Danny Elfman, Abel Korzeniowski, Yann Tiersen, Thomas Newman, Hans Zimmer, Nick Cave and Warren Ellis (The Assassination…), John Powell (Dragons), Howard Shore (LOTR),… Spotify is really great to get to know new composers wink
And yes, it was Bregt who brought me here.

YOU are going to get in trouble with our Greeks.

  8. Well, not to my Teutonic ears, kindly pardon my ignorance! Does "Kaat" relate to any German name? Spontaniously I would think of something like "Kathrin / Kati"?

    Must be something like that!
  9. It seems to be a very old Germanic name (like Volker wink ). The Romans erroneously liked it to "Karthago" and formed the name "Katharina". The true origins of the name are not known.
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.
  10. Really? Katharina doesn't mean "pure" in Greek?

  11. Well, "Karthago" is a Greek name, isn' t it?

    Greek???? Not at all.
    It's Phoenician (isn't it?)

EDIT: yes, it is (<proud of self having remembered classical education>...except apprently the Phoenicians spoke Canaanite (which sound like it could be detrimental to Superman), not Phoenician...ite...ish...ian. )

  12. No:
lateinisch Carthago, altgriechisch Καρχηδών, -όνος Karchēdōn; aus dem Phönizischen קרת חדשת Qart-Hadašt ,neue Stadt‘, ‚neues Tyros‘

  14. Yes, but Qart-Hadašt is not a Greek name, Karthago is. Like Köln is German and Colonia is Latin.

But the Greek name is Karchedon, not Karthago!

  15. True. Then it's the Latin name. Yet I believe that Pawel is right in linking "Katharina" to "katharsis". So maybe the initial conex between Kaat and Katharina is wrong.
