I find Tyler's Timeline one of his best action scores...maybe I should rephrase that and say that this one of his most enjoyable scores? I'm listening to the CD at the moment and it's just excellent. The sequence in "Battle of La Roque" - starting from ~1:16 - is to my ears awesome!!

You do manage to redeem yourself later in the topic, Erik, by mentioning John Powell's Phoenix Theme as being one of the best of the decade. As the younger members of the forum say, "WORD!"

    The Beach Christopher Gordon

This is the 4 piece concert version. There's something about Gordon's melodies which is so refreshing and different, and most importantly magical. His melodies have a very ethereal quality to them, and that's what got me so hooked on this composer in the first place.

And that score you're hearing, in this suite is simply breathtaking. I remember a couple of years back when i was in constant talks with him about the 2007 soncinemad concert, and he sent me that concert suite of THE BEACH. Man was i blown away or what, gorgeous music.

I love the Phoenix theme, it's the rest of the score that doesn't move me. Timeline on the other hand, is kick-ass from note 1 to the end. About the rejected score, seriously, i don't think anyone would ever bother with it - or more importantly actually elevate to higher grounds that BT's Timeline, if it hadn't been Goldsmith's.

Still not entirely sure what you mean? Do you mean no other score except Goldsmith's would have been better than Tyler's?

No, i mean that the rejected score is bad. Some parts of it are VERY, VERY BAD. And oddly (or perhaps not so strange eventually) some people will actually elevate way above the very good imo replacement score, the far better Brian Tyler score only because you have a Brian Tyler VS Goldsmith case. If it had been a rejection of exactly the same music but written by anyone else besides Goldsmith, i think most would not even bother with it, and definitely not elevate it above Brian Tyler's rhythmic and heavily melodic, coherent score.

Perhaps. But I genuinely do prefer it to Tyler's score.

Tyler's score is fun, but I prefer Goldsmith's style, and Goldsmith's Timeline is a personal favourite of mine. Tyler's score is okay, but it starts to get a little 'noisy' some way into the album, whereas Goldsmith's score has a far better structure to it (meaning there are far more interesting ideas broken up nicely on album than Tyler's, IMO).

Come up with any theory you like, I still prefer Goldsmith's score by miles.

Maybe... but IMHO Goldsmith's Timeline is the superior score no matter who composed the score. Is it one of Goldsmith's best? No. But it obliterates anything Tyler wrote in his score. Everything from the themes to the action music. The only really off putting element is that HORRIBLE buzzing synth thing which makes you wonder just what the hell Goldsmith was thinking. One of the big problems I have with Tyler's score is the repetitive nature of it.

Sorry, but the syntax was annoying me:

"No, I mean the rejected score is bad. Some parts of it are very very bad.
Oddly (but perhaps not unusually) some will agree it's better than Tyler's replacement score, simply because it's a case of Goldsmith Vs. Tyler. If it had been the exact same score rejected with a different composer attached to the production besides Goldsmith, then I would imagine most would not elevate it above Tyler's rhythmic, melodic and more coherent score."
