Doctor Who "Children In Need" Cardiff Millennium Arena Concert (2006) - Murray Gold

Were you watching the video or is there a CD/DVD available?

Ahhh, there IS a bootleg DVD available.
What I did is get a copy of that and extract the soundtrack (which is in amazingly good quality!)
I then proceeded to edit it to cut tracks to a proper format and create my own CD.
    Works lovely!

Okay then I guess I have to look at some boots to get my legs into. smile

I just had to replay Creation of Fire a second time after the album finished, such a short track packed with the power of the LSO plus full choir builds with a primal power that equals Carl Orff! Ungodly stuff, incredible!!

  1. NP: Private Fears in Public Places (Mark Snow)

One of the unexpected pleasant surprises of this year for me. Synthetic for the most part, but attractive and melodic.

    NP:Casino Royale (Arrnold)

Probably my favourite Bon score. I love "you Know my name" theme and the addition of the electric guitars! It's perfect for the new wild and hard James Bon.

Vesper love theme is gorgeous too!

My only complainment is , Arnold (or Dood) orchestrations always are over the top. He can't just try to writte some action music with just percusion, string or any other idea? He always is over the top with his metals and trumpets.

Anyway...Africa Rundown, Blunt Instrument, Miami International and City of Lovers beer
  2. I love his over-the-top stuff. Can´t get enough of it. I´d just advise not to drive a car while listening to it. You might find yourself spending more fuel than usual. wink

Actually I have Miami international, Blunt Instrument and African Rundown in my selection of music in my car ( With To the roof, Mona lisa Overdrive...) and...it's punk
  3. NP: Star Wars - The Empire Strikes Back (from the 4-disc Anthology set)

Part 2 of the Anthology set of the epic saga and one of the finest film scores ever IMO. Williams again shows his genius talent for writing fantastic new themes and creating the most exciting action crescendos. Absolutely brilliant, but so much good stuff is missing. Luckily I own the complete albums.

I'll say it again, just in case you didn't know:

This is what I call film music!!!

    Tell me more?

Lots of climatic orchestral melodic bursts, heavily lyrical and with dense, vivid arrangements, all orchestral. If you exclude the very good but can't stand 'cause of the Korean lyrics - songs, the level of musicianship and thematic richness of several asian scores never ceases to amaze me, day by day.

North Korea is a communist state and largely criticized by the international community. I don't think there is a big language difference, for example, though.

    Epics compilation

While I generally dislike compilations because as soon as I hear a track I like, I want to hear more of the tracks from that score, this is a good introduction to some older scores that I don't know very well.

    HANS ZIMMER - backdraft

Mostly loved and for a good reason wink Although not a big fan of the heavy synths, still they make perfect sense when taken into perspective and the fit the orchestral whole largely. I particularly like the slower, more dramatic parts and a smile is always upon me through the early hints of Gladiator's "battle" elements in tracks like "Burn It All". The ending "show me your firetruck" is of course a winner. Not a score i return to frequently but when i do, it's largely enjoyable.

My Cousin Rachel - Franz Waxman

My first listen to this score from my favourite Golden Age composer (I know North and Herrmann operated in the Golden Age but I don't consider them "Golden Age composers" if you know what I mean). So far - so good!

I would definitely pay for an expanded edition of this classy score. Early Zimmer is brilliant, don't you just love that choir kicking in during 'You Go We Go'. That always gets my blood boiling in a positive way!!!!!

    The Ninth Gate: Wojciech Kilar

I've been on a Kilar kick over the last few days.

Also played Death and the Maiden, Portrait Of A Lady and Koenig Der Letzen Tage Bof

    Brilliant stuff here!

Next, probably his iconic score for Dracula (it's been a few years since I last played it).
