The complete score is a very entertaining listen. Big fan of that score.

The HollowShip is a great addition! A very Total Recall-sque!

And much more of the love theme! beer

Is that a comment on the maestro's senior citizenship?

The Dark Knight Hans Zimmer & JNH

When you're in the mood for it, this is one awesome album. (In some parts a pretty good film score, in other parts not.)

    punk

I don't think I'll ever listen to Batman Begins again after this, no need to.

NP : STAR TREK INSURRECTION - Jerry Goldsmith

After the comments today I thought I'd give it a whirl seeing as it's a Trek score I very rarely play. I can hear why I don't often play it but even so, it's Goldsmith and that makes it a cut above most efforts.

    NP:Star Trek (Goldsmith)

A runner up to my all time favourite scores.

How I said a lot of times, I prefer the Cloud Stuff. Very mysterious and herrman-esque.

    But Klingons Battle rocks!

    I really love this score.

How I said a great combination of Sleeping with the enemy and Total Recall.

Sadly the "drones attack" evil motif is underused instead the other Evil motif. If was not for that..this score could have been a 4 rough stars.

The Tender moments are touching and the action stuff sometimes is a little bit uninspired but it's supplied for a gorgeous recording!

The full score is better than the official album, much better.

I had the misfortune of watching this film recently. There may have been a worse film made in the 1990s but if so then I haven't seen it. JNH's music is typical thriller dreck but as usual in really bad thrillers, the sincere music serves to make it worse and I must admit I laughed out loud a couple of times because of his scoring choices. I guess it must sound a lot better away from the film though.
  1. Patch Adams - Marc Shaiman

A very sweet but short score that I play much too rarely. There are some wonderful heartfelt melodies in here, some upbeat, some dramatic, but it's short enough not to become overbearing or repetitive. In fact, its length is just about right. This is the only score I have of Shaiman, but it makes me wish I had more.

    4 STARS

I'm sure it must be a lot better away from the film than within it. I didn't think an album had ever been released though.

That is an excellent little score. Very beautiful stuff. Another of Shaiman's in that same vein that I would recommend is The American President.

Can't think of a more sugary, sickly score. I've not heard it in album form, but as a film score it's one of a handful of scores that I hate. With a passion.

Not a bad album which includes a lovely version of Debussy's 'Clare De Lune'.

    NP: Ivanhoe - Miklos Rozsa

I´ve been in Rosza mood for a few days now. It´s astonishing how Rozsa influenced filmmusic in so many ways, and how many composers took his style and developed it further without ever surpassing him, just changing the way it was done. There is so much of Williams in Ben Hur alone that it´s a wonderful joy to listen to this stuff again and discover how one thing leads to another. And even these days, you find Rozsa directly influencing scores like Lair.

I must admit I never listened to Ivanhoe before, and I find it´s just another fantastic score by Rozsa who never seems to fail in generating drama, excitement, adventure, and much more. I´m listening to Broughton´s rerecording, and I love it. A lot.

Thank God i haven't seen the film; i always enjoy listening to the trademarked JNH piano arpeggios in his early thriller scores, which he developed later in the Shyamalan films. Top stuff
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  3. NP: The End of St Petersburg (Alfred Schnittke)

Schnittke was the most ironic composer to ever underscore a pro-socialist film. Hard to believe he got away with this, even if the Cold War had practically ended when he did it.

Also just played: Agnes of God (Delerue)
Ah! One of the greatest American scores of the 80s.

Well, i was always surprised that you mentioned that 'cause it's a pretty pleasant listening experience with sweet themes and lots of melody; granted the film WAS very cheesy indeed and that you mentioned you haven't listened to the score outside the movie, maybe you're a bit biased against it?

Exactly, I've not heard it outside of the film.

I hate it as a score, and it over-exaggerates the already sickly nature of the film to such a degree that I literally cringed during some scenes. So I'm not biased against it, I just despise it as a film score. It might make a good album, but I can't comment on that since I've not heard it outside the film.
  4. NP: Amerika (Poledouris)

Nice reference to Elgar's cello concerto in 'Dieter's View' and 'Burial'. And the fugue in 'The Dance Begins' is a great touch. One of the best miniseries scores of all time, rivalling even Lonesome Dove at times.

Yes, hate. I hate its use within the film, I hate the overly-sentimental, sickly music coupled with an overly-sentimental, sickly film. It's like pouring syrup on a bowl of sugar.
