A gorgeous theme and wonderful cello work makes me wonder why I don't listen to this more often. -

The best score out of the three, IMHO. The action cues are superb, as well as the romance theme. Pity they didn't use his amazing train fight cue...
But do you agree that Chris Young's alternates that were used were better?
I do! Even though it was just a re-work of Hellraiser II.On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

NP : THE LORD OF THE RINGS - Leonard Rosenman
You didn't mean this one did you?
I've always liked Rosenman's score a lot and his Helms Deep is truly AWESOME, the one single track that stands above Shore's work.On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

It certainly has its highlights, no question. And I still like that movie for trying to stay as true to the atmosphere of the book as possible. Its a combination of childhood memories and true affection that deny me a more educated analysis of the movie. But the score is fantastic, yes.

NP: Howard Shore - The Lord of the Rings - The Complete Recordings
Well, not exactly now playing, but I´m currently listening to them while I do the ironing (and I still don´t have the third installment). I love them immensely for a lot of different reasons and can´t wait to get my hands on The Complete Return of the King. I like the longer arrangements, the extended stuff, the missing tracks finally available. I love it to relive the whole movie while actually doing something else. And I always find something new in them... -

RP: Cyril Morin - Autumn
A gorgeous main theme (plus some variations) and some of the quieter Morin passages like in Film Works. Makes for a peaceful listen. I do like this dude's work but I'm always hoping for less of the drone/quiet parts.

I'm a newby when it comes to his music, but so far I liked every score a lot! Especially Bab'Aziz and that compilation from last year. Pity they're so hard to get or are more expansive than usual sometimes.
Where do you buy them Bhel?
Just by Google searches for the cheapest place. Amazon 3rd party sellers is a good place too. Some of the ones like Bab Aziz I got from Amazon France.

Awesome! Did you get the Elmer Film Music Collection? I think it's super cool that you get these even in spite of being in India (do you get them shipped directly or have a friend gather these and ship them to you?)

NP: The Horse Whisperer - Thomas Newman
One of those Newman scores I rarely listen to but when I do, I realise it's has to be one of his best. So subtle, relaxing and incredibly soothing. Newman's typical synthetic background sound design is just a pleasure to listen to, as it always is. I also love the birdsong, wind and frogs you can hear! Gorgeous score.

Beautiful score, that Horse Whisperer. Any music that can get me to buy into a schmaltzy film like that one - and I was a real sucker for that film - is doing something right. Having heard some of Barry's music for the film, I think I would have been kept at arm's length from the film rather than being brought closer to it at times.

Fantastic Herrmannesque score!
This one's more Williams and Waxman to me than Herrmann.
Never mind who influenced it, it is surely the best John Williams album I've heard. Quite a powerful ride.
NP: Code 46 (Free Association)
Fans of chilled ambient music in film will appreciate this one. Yared's Breaking and Entering and Martinez's Solaris are good comparisons.A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

I liked Young's work but I just like Elfman's much better. Maybe because I'm a little more used to his style

My cousin in the US helps me get this stuff, sometimes by mailing me and sometimes he rips them in lossless and sends me. -

They wanted Barry originally? Oh my, I doubt that movie would have had half the impact it had on me if it had been scored with Barry´s "subtle" romantics. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Newman´s score for the movie. -

Barry scored it, and was removed from the project when he refused to rewrite a particular cue. His themes for it appear on his gorgeous album THE BEYONDNESS OF THINGS. It would have been too romantic for the picture, I think. There's a lightness to Newman's music that kind of keeps his music from getting too heavily emotional.
NP: The Ghost and Mrs Muir (Bernard Herrmann)
One of the finest of all romantic scores. The 'Andante Cantabile' is real love music.A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

In fact, I'm not even sure there is a 2 CD version: I am aware of two single-disk editions!

JAMES NEWTON HOWARD - the happening
Shyamalan always brings the best out of the composer and boy it's been a long since we last heard something like that from him! This is old-fashioned horror scoring with balls, like it should always be; From Giacchino's ROAR to War of the worlds (Williams) and to JNH's own THE SIGNS (similar piano motif) and THE VILLAGE, it's all here making up a top-class modern horror score. Loving it.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -
