Actually, travelling the universe by folding space is one of the most scientifically realistic ways to travel in light speed. I've read that the Star Trek Warp speed is actually the most scientifically possible way to do it, so it's not so impossible. The idea is to create a spatial-temporal fold, possibly like a minor black hole?
