The movie is quite interesting. There was something that bothered me about it, but not enough to not like it. It's a very stylised world -- it's more a fantasy film than anything.A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

Thanks! Looking forward to it.
We'd also go to Anna Karenina and Room 514. Not too many because the movie schedules are not on our side to watch more films.Kazoo -

NP: Beasts of the Southern Wild (Romer/Zeitlin)
Quite a striking presence in the film -- if used a bit too much -- but it doesn't play as well on CD.
Indeed, very odd case of a score. On CD it's unlistenable at places, at least to me.
n.p. MARK KILAN - Bless me ultima
Solemn and peaceful, let this score carry you with the soothing female vocals (beautiful and not irritatingly typical for a change), acoustic guitar and string orchestra. This is a very nice surprise for me.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

NP: NOSTRADAMUS (Barrington Pheloung)
This has actually grown on me over the years....from Pheloung's atmospheric, textural score to the traditional Gregorian/medieval music.I am extremely serious. -

This. Forget the RC-dominated crappy world of film music. Listen to this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CiHDfKtk … r_embedded cannot stop playing it. A sure purchase for me.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

Indeed. Thanks for the share, Demetris. Moving and beautiful.
It was neat seeing the director and producer completely enveloped and over taken by the performance and composition.
Oscar? -

NP: The Dark Knight Rises - Hans Zimmer
The new materials is a winner to me. The Origins cues is a great showcase of this, especially the Wayne Manor piece, which contain the best iteration of the Batman "march" ever. It's quite amazing how far the Black Rain root still remain after 20+ years. -

You're welcome my friend. What you noted about their reaction also captivated me, I am sure it's one extremely rare case these days.

Class and beauty.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

I like Sneakers a lot. Great film, too!
I tried out a couple of 2012 scores that were a waste of time:
PARANORMAN (by Jon Brion, maybe?). This was inoffensive, but really dull.
THE MASTER (Johnny Greenwood). This was unsettling, dissonant, and just not pleasant at all. My wife and children absolutely hated it. The second track, for example, is an odd piece for a couple woodwinds that see-saw back and forth in no discernible key or time signature. While I appreciated the difficultly of writing such formless music, my five-year-old said, "This music is too crazy. I just want to listen to no music." I convinced him to let me simply skip the rest of that track. A few tracks later, though, during one of the most grating cues he started screaming "TURN IT OFF! TURN IT OFF!" I happily obliged. -

It's good in small doses but listening to the whole thing is like being repeatedly smacked over the head. -

There's some great action tracks on that, but I agree -- by the end the album is more than enough.A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

There's a lot to be said for the days when soundtrack albums were 30-40 minutes long. I'm surprised I haven't had that thought before. -

The problem with the album is the lack of variety being represented. I believe that have the full score would be more balanced having more orchestral, non action tracks. -

Seems to be a lot of either dull or painfully dissonant in 2012. Dredd is a nightmare of grunge and Bourne Legacy is competing with Green Lantern for the worst ever Howard score. Thank goodness for the gems and the old faithful like Korzeniowski and Horner.I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to! -

The album does benefit from a bit of trimming. Speaking of Arnold...
The Chronicles of Jesus The Lion: The Voyage of Some Shit Or Another David Arnold
Returning to this one after initially dismissing it. It's actually pretty good, especially the last few minutes of the album! (And Arnold manages to outdo Gregson-Williams' entire two scores in one track with his take on HGW's own theme. IMO.) -

That film is one of the worst size-of-budget-to-quality-of-film offenders in the entire history of fantasy films. And I say that as someone who likes Narnia...at least the book versions. I find the film better than the music - and that is saying something.
Great views of San Francisco though. The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

The Debt, Red Corner, Whispers in the Dark - Thomas Newman
I'm trying to whet my appetite for Skyfall by going through all of Newman's suspense/thriller scores. Anybody know of any more good ones? -

NP: Skyfall - Adele
Kinda dig this new song. The melodic hook is good, though not exceptional, and her range is a bit more limited compared to her own songs. It sounds less like Shirley Bassey and more like a Diana Krall, not that there's anything wrong with Ms. Krall, just that the standard for me is Shirley Bassey, and Adele is the closest to a Bassey sound. Anyway, the later half is kind of all over the place, but I'll be okay with that, since it's still better than the Jack White travesty. -
