  1. I have just uploaded my review of Kiril Dzajkovski's wonderful score to The Great Water:

    http://reelmusic.wordpress.com/2011/09/ … zajkovski/

People need to listen to this and buy it:

Goodness! This is a popular review. I think that the composer has a big fanbase outside film music circles. He has linked to the review on his Facebook page and views on the blog are 3-4 times normal!

By the way, if anyone is interested, on the day I uploaded my review for The Great Water I had 5x more views than usual!

  5. My blog posts keep coming!

Anyone who may be interested, I have just uploaded comments on another score that I feel is worthy of peoples' attention, particularly anyone who likes scores such as Jablonsky's Transformers scores or Zimmer's action scoring from the 1990s. Haik Naltchayan's (who?) score for Chasing Legends - a documentary film following professional cycling team Columbia-HTC in the 2009 Tour de France is definitely worth a listen, in my opinion:

I am just finishing off a review of Kiril Dzajkovski's excellent score to the Macedonian film The Great Water.

I will be heartily recommending people hunt this score down and to get a flavour of the score itself take a listen to a clip:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4U5dI2T0Io

One of the highlight pieces, it shows off the Balkan music aspect of the music that features heavily in the score. And I just love that percussion rhythm!

    Hope people like it!

Sadly, not me -- and I got a little excited after the quote above.

You could do a book Alan
    listen to more classical music!
  11. I've uploaded an alternate review to Christopher Bowen's score for the stop-motion animation, $9.99:

    Enjoy!

  13. Anyone heard of Suzanne Collins? Or her books on the Hunger Games? Well here's a review of the 11-minute score by James Schafer to a 12-minute short film called Second Quarter Quell that is based on a piece from one of the books:

  14. I've just uploaded a book review at Reel Music:

    http://reelmusic.wordpress.com/2011/09/ … y-russell/

This thin book focusing on John Barry's score for Goldfinger now keeps company my only other book review to date: on Jeff Bond's "The Music of Star Trek".

I'm slightly jealous of your apparent energy and dedication.

  15. Thanks Martijn. I am struggling not to do any during the day though! I am trying to just do them during the evening, but that does mean some late nights.

There is, after all, lots to do!

I'm jealous too Martijn. I can struggle for two days on one review.

    listen to more classical music!
  16. At the moment I am choosing titles where reviews seem to come quite quickly. With these ones I know what I want to say.

I am sure if I had to review specific titles then I could struggle for words.

I am reasonably confident that even though some of the reviews have been written quickly they are still acceptable pieces.

  17. I have just uploaded at Reel Music a review of Thierry Malet's score to the short animated film, Imago:

    http://reelmusic.wordpress.com/2011/09/ … rry-malet/

Malet's use of the marimba and some of his use of strings reminds me of a couple of scores from Thomas Newman.

Just had a nice email from Thierry about the review. I need to update it to correct it regarding some of the orchestrations. Maybe I need to contact the composers before I post my reviews!

I will let people know when I have updated it if anyone is interested.

I only mentioned it because several of the composers have been very keen on contacting me after I have posted. As most of the composers are relatively unknown they seem to still find it easy to speak to people who have expressed an interest in their music.

I just remember trying two or three times and no luck at all. Perhaps that they were bigger names Isham, and McCreary makes it harder

  20. I've just uploaded some comments on Alessandro Molinari's score to the 2009 Italian TV movie (based loosely on Henry James' The Turn of The Screw) Il Mistero Del Lago:
