    Back to the Future

What a treat to see this classic in the cinema (and in Belfast, the home of the Delorean!), it looked glorious after its recent restoration! The cinema was packed with people of all ages, great to see people showing it to their kids.

fantastic, it's great to see how much people still adore this film, I would like to see this movie too in the cinema, alone for the atmosphere of all the people cheering and laughing smile

I saw it on Friday night. It was on at the biggest screen at the cinema but it was less than quarter full. sad
  2. My son David went to see Back To The Future and thoroughly enjoyed it. Though it would not have been a film he would have chosen to watched at home.

BTW, he tagged along with a friend.

I remember when I first saw Back to the future as a kid, I thought it was the greatest and most entertaining film I had ever seen. I also think the music is brilliant, and it really made the movie what it is.

    DORIAN GRAY

Pretty good actually, stylish, atmospheric and with a great modern score by an unknown to me,
Charlie Mole, filled with nice string textures, very cleverly combined at places with subtle electronics' veil and various instrumental soli performing the bold main theme and electric guitars in a way that brought out nothing RC-ish, but all style and elegance. Anyone know anything about this man here?
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  3. Charlie Mole scored an Oscar wilde adaptation (AN IDEAL HUSBAND) before - for the same director, I think. That's a light dramatic score more attuned to that film's humorous vein. He also did the same director's OTHELLO, which is a heavy, dramatic score. Neither score are personal favourites or anything, but they're very well done.

Same here, i loved it in the movie last night; it worked very good with the story and visuals. It's odd that various other smaller assignments and / or scores that nobody really cares about - get released whilst stuff like this, doesn't. Let's hope that someone might release it someday, MovieScore media perhaps?

  5. I haven't seen DORIAN actually. I hear the score is quite good though, which your report confirms.

If you remember Sheldon Leonard productions I actually watched a movie he acted in 1947 called Violence from Monogram pictures. The score wasn't bad which makes me wonder what happened to the sound tapes from that company. Hmm idea?
The story centered around a phony new group called United Workers with violence and ultimate exposure. These low budgets are pretty well done.

I'm thinking of watching In The Electric Mist or The Wolfman or The Road, tonight.

    Which ones are best?

ALL EXCELLENT choices, imo. As a movie, The wolfman is the lesser but still it's got great atmosphere and a kick ass score if you turn the volume up and the lights off. The better of those as far as movie quality is concerned, i'd say is THE ROAD but it's very grim.

    La Horde (2009)

Good zombie film with lots of action & gore . Don't expect much of the story , it fits on one page .
The acting is generally good for this kind of film . The zombie make-up is fine and the zombies are
a bit of a mix between Romero & Boyle zombies . The reason for the outbreak is left unexplored
though . The music of Christopher Lennertz is energetic and effective throughout . But why , oh why
do our "heroes" keep shooting at the zombie bodies instead of their heads ?! In previous scenes they
found out it was more effective by shooting them in the head but still they aimed at the body !
Go figure ! If you're a fan of the genre then this is a nice way to spend 90 mins .
Watch it with the surround on full force and bug your neighbours ! wink

Have you also read the novel, D.?

It was right after I did, that all of a sudden the trailer of the film surfaced - very coincidental. What struck me was how explicit some aspects of the novel seemed to be made, like the monstrous figure that probably stands for Dorian's true self and some kind of fire/explosion that's nowhere in the novel. And then the 'blood' and 'sex' if hear of? Eh? It seemed rather Hollywoodey, and after several bad reviews and the fact it didn't get a theatrical release over here (still waiting for a DVD release) I basically gave it up. So, good to see some love for the film, yet I'm still cautious. Is there enough attention to Oscar Wilde's brilliant dialogue? Your comments on the music, however, got me very interested...

    I haven't read the book but i am pretty well aware it's a classic so judging by the film i watched, no matter how stylish and well-shot it was, don't expect to match the book;

    Monsters

The trailer lied. This isn't the ultimate big monster, horror movie. I loved the premise, and the first part of the movie was very promising. But the two main characters, which are likable enough to begin with, though not great actors, just talk and talk and talk, until you just want them to shut up. The monsters are ok, but nothing special. They were essentially big walking octopi, which wasn't very imaginative, and the CGI looked like the movie was 15 years old. There was almost no monster action, and the end was a huge letdown. I wish someone would redo this movie, because the basic idea of it was great.

My rating: 3 out of 10

Saw CLOVERFIELD last night on tv.

Quite an interesting concept, terribly cheesy ending, but very fun all in all. The absence of music was spot-on, music was nowhere fitting in there.

I enjoyed it, but the shaky camera made me so nauseous I had to look away through much of the movie.
