The whole work, film and score, is impressive to say the least and the whole experience just elevated one score i already appreciated a lot, to one of the bests for this year.

The music was intrusive, way too loud (blame the mixers if you want but there were many instances where key segments of dialogue were inaudible) and by the end you just wanted the music to go away (my wife felt the same way) It felt like sonic wallpaper... it played almost from start to finish making the finale just headache inducing instead of special. There were some great moments but by the time we got to the third act the score became grating and film music should never do that.
The score plays much better on CD.

Not the experience i had, clearly not the same for all people. My company and I loved every minute of it, and so did the majority of the audience.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -

Demetris, do films you see in Greece get a Greek dubbing? Because the mix might be different then and we're all talking about something else. By the way, I really didn't feel the mix was all that loud in the music department - I also wonder if it might have to do with different cinema's and the way they have their sound system organized. But, then again, we Dutch people aren't totally dependent on hearing the dialogue because we also get the subtitles (though I always listen to the spoken word as well, and I never missed a thing). I'm anxious to hear it on BluRay. -

I have nothing bad to say about the film itself. Excellent movie... but the majority of Zimmer's score was not what the film called for.

Of course not, Greece and Cyprus have never gone the dubbing way, thank God otherwise i'd never go to the cinema. I absolutely loathe dubbing with all my strength.

Well, Zimmer's music does tend to get a louder mixing than average in films, and his music does tend to get noticed more often by a general audience... draw your conclusions. They don't actively pay attention to it, so it needs to be a little bit 'in your face' for them to even start noticing.
Me, I like and often prefer a louder musical mixing, as I think it should carry the film and accompany it. -

I don't mind a louder mix either but Zimmer's score was battling the dialogue and extremely loud sound effects as well. It all got to be too much by the end of the picture. There was no balance.

I know exactly what he meant. Inception would have benefited by LESS score aka silence. Just because I'm an advocate of large symphonic music doesn't mean that a film should be dominated by such.

That is a startling extrapolation of meaning from a parsimonious statement.
I believe the music is mixed too loudly, there is too much of it, it pauses too rarely for extended periods for dramatic effect, and ultimately quite a bit of it is focused on the red herring of action over character. (This does not apply to 'Old Souls' and the first half of 'Waiting for a Train', obviously.)
I like the album a lot, listen to it all the time, but it's not a great marriage of music and film for me. So there.A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

Last week I watched THE DARK KNIGHT for the 3rd time, a very good film but I couldn't help taking more notice of the music this time, IMO the score is crap, utter shit! If I had any kind of power whatsoever I would have had the score thrown out, it's nought more than sonic wallpaper.On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

Interestingly, I had the same thoughts at the last series of Doctor Who.
While Murray Gold already displayed a tendency to overscore some scenes in previous seasons, the immediate segue into full orchestral-cum-electronic-beat action music whenever someone turns his head slightly faster than usual, or the thunderous fortississimo blast with three or four choirs chanting epically over ever ascending orchestral scales (with thirteen timpani keeping time) at every single episode's apotheosis (no matter whether the Doctor saves the multiverse from Dalek-demon hybrids or just fastens a screw on a telephone) is becoming somewhat overly noticeable.
It's still great stuff to listen to on CD though, and I'm sure I'll buy the Season 5 album as I have the others.
I still dislike Matt Smith.
I really want to like him in the role, but I find him not very menacing (Tenant did that exceedingly well), not very seasoned (as Eccleston projected so well), and not very amusing. I agree with what you're saying about Doctor Who, Martijn. But I do remember at one point seeing the briefest of instances where Matt Smith does do menacing (I can't remember exactly where) and I thought that he did it quite well.
Maybe it was just because it was him being slightly less quirky than usual rather than actually being menacing, but I do remember thinking that it would be good to see more of this side of this version of the Doctor.

I've only seen it once but I thought the score worked brilliantly. It was constantly present and I felt constantly on edge throughout the movie because of it. I didn't know the music beforehand, so my enjoyment of the music in the movie was probably more like a non-film score fan.

THE EXPENDABLES
Fun, loud and brainless entertainment of the good ol' fashioned way but to be honest, i expected more action than what was shown in the trailer and essentially proofed to be a resume of all the action in the film. Still it was a nice ride with Stallone greatly in form (as an actor, the direction was numb) but i'd like more of Willis and Schwanzenpecker, instead of those brief cameos. The music was perhaps the most impersonal and auto-pilotish score by Tyler 'till now, but was loud and huge fun in the film. Liked the whole, 2 hours pleasantly killed!Love Maintitles. Yep , I remember one or two moments were Matt Smith is really menacing , can't remember the episode(s) though because series 5 isn't really my favourite season . I really hope Amy Pond gets dropped in a pond really quickly ! Besides nice eye candy her character is really annoying and does nothing for me !
