First thing that came to mind was Deep Star Six... but that's more like The Abyss meets Aliens.

Sounds kind of familiar and very much a direct to video film.
What year was it approximately?
It was a very good movie as far as I recall. I love those kinds of movies!
Probably in the range '85 to '95.

Funny you mention that, since I just saw the trailer Deep star six 5 minutes ago, and that made me think of this movie. I'm certain it wasn't in water. I think it was outer space, probably some mining company working in an asteroid.

I'm not certain that's it, but it sounds like it.
Now I just have to find it.....

Bandolero!
Fairly routine, but very entertaining western with Jimmy Stewart, Dean Martin and Raquel Welch. Jesus Christ, Raquel must be the sexiest film star of all time. Unbelievably hot.
The HD master was incredible. The thing could have been shot yesterday.
Anyway, I was pleased by how much I enjoyed it. I watched it since it was on tv and I like to see things scored by Jerry Goldsmith. When I thought about it, I believe this is the first Goldsmith-scored western that I've seen. Score works tremendously well. Many of the big action scenes are unscored - the main exception is accompanied by the cue "Ambushed", which is a spectacular use of music. -

The Expendables
Wow, just wow. You don't see this kind of action films nowadays, not anymore. When I say action, I mean ACTION, not a series of impossible, ridiculous and absurd stunts fabricated in the post-production of the film by an army of CGI artists. The Expendables is physical, powerful, old school action witht the technical resources available today. Really well directed by Stallone, perfectly edited (you always know what's happening on screen....also very rare these days), great photography and a perfect cast of tough guys. Tyler's music, even if not his best work in the genre, is perfect in the action scenes, aided by Stallone, that despite the sound effects, allows his music to shine specially during the 15 minute, non-dialogued final fight (or should I say final mayhem?) of the movie. Fifteen minutes of music, shots, explosions, fights, broken bones, destroyed buildings and huge guys kicking asses. As I said, you don't see this kind of movies nowadays.
Oh, and the sequence at the church with Stallone, Willis and Schwarzenegger could seem just a joke but it is more than that. Don't miss it.Anything with an orchestra or with a choir....at some point will reach you -

500 days is a fine film. A friend of mine in Sweden considers Summer the first character on film who has truly captured her emotional state (although she's less inclined to have shower sex with her friends).A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

Fantastic finale for this trilogy!
It's a gift for all who grew up with the characters.

I watched an interesting film last night called Lady In The Lake, a story by Raymond Chandler/Phillip Marlowe. The film was only shot from the eyes of Chandler. You only saw him if a mirror was involved. There was no music only a choir chanting or singing a xmas carol. I don't think most people would like it because it was too far out of the box. If you want something a bit different give it a watch

Slightly eclectic list of stuff I've been watching lately:
Last Man Standing
Pretty poor. Silly, cartoonish violence doesn't help. Any sense of atmosphere is completely destroyed by Ry Cooder's pathetic score, which seems to have been written for a completely different film.
The Searchers
One of the greats and probably my favourite non-Leone western. It looks stunning, the story is compelling, and while some parts of the script seem rather quaint today, it's never really a problem.
Rio Bravo
Maybe note quite as good as the above, but still terrific. Highly influential film, with a quartet of misfits trying to defend a jail (with one inmate) from people trying to get him out. This was my first viewing and I feared the worst for Tiomkin's score after some astonishingly bad mickey mousing in the first scene, but apart from that it was good. I'm astonished to see that it's never been released, even on vinyl.
The Princess and the Frog
The best non-Pixar film from Disney since, probably, The Lion King. Very likeable characters, wonderful atmosphere (thanks in no small part to its terrific music).
Ganges
Three-part BBC documentary I watched on Blu-Ray, about life on and around the river. I've always been fascinated by India and would love to visit and watching this did nothing to change that. Truly fascinating. -

Animated summer!
How To Train Your Dragon
I love it a lot! The best CGI-movie from Dreamworks so far. Even better than Kung Fu Panda.
And I say it's better than Toy Story 3 as a stand-alone movie.
(TS3 is a great sequel but it's partly because we already know and care for the fantastic characters)
I loved the story and characters, especially Toothless*, aka Stitch with wings. So cute. I thought he and Hiccup became friends a bit too fast, though. But I love how the story ends.
The flight scenes are amazing, I always love flight scenes in animated movies! Miyazaki excels at it but this one is also fantastic, with 3D effect. It's a shame that the 3D projection was horrible in that theater (XpanD heavy glasses & blurring dark screen )... I'd love to see it again in a better theater (I watched TS3 with RealD screen, it was great).
* In Japanese dub they changed his name into Tooth... stupid
Which movie will I watch next? Arrietty The Borrower (the latest Ghibli movie), or Colorful (a new anime), How To Train Your Dragon again, or Inception? I just wish tickets are less expensiveLabels are for cans, not people. - Anthony Rapp -

Long time ago I enjoyed this type of movie! The music of Danna and Rob Simonson is really nice, with some cute piano melodies. Never too mellow.(I didn't knew there was a score release!!)
Thanks for the tip!

KINGDOM OF HEAVEN, director's cut
A wholly different movie with what's perhaps the best direction and visuals for Ridley Scott so far; Harry Gregson Williams' score in this one is nothing short but impressive, imo. I wonder why they even let the problematic in all aspects-theatrical version ever get released.Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders. -
