The music in all three films stinks! But that's just my opinion wink

I think the Memories cue from Top gun is fantastic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXgiwnYxleQ

You gotta love 80s cheese to like the score in this film. And I do. But what I do love even more are the songs. It's one of the first song soundtracks I bought and I haven't stopped listening and enjoying every single second of it.

And anyone who doesn't headbang at Roll tide/Mutiny isn't a true film score fan. wink

    Peter smile

That's right. Crimson Tide is the template for modern action scores, Zimmer deserves to be head-banged to here. Definitely in my Zimmer top 5.

Crimson Tide? I sort of like it but I also HATE it! That power anthem crap is cheesy. You like this? I say bring back Doctor Zaius to lobotomise anyone who loves it. wink

Whenever I hear Crimson Tide's awesomeness, I hear anything but cheesy.

Seriously, cheesy? I don't get where you get this from. confused

You have a rodent problem Tim? biggrin

This was done six years before he started the Poe series with Vincent Price and it really shows. Swamp Women has nothing to offer.

I think this is my first post in this thread (it just got out of control from the beginning, and I haven't read any of the previous 168 pages!).

I just wanted to say that I've had a wonderful 'Cinema' day.

In the early afternoon, I saw a press screening of the Iranian film NADER AND SIMM - A SEPARATION, which was a wonderful exploration of difficult family relationships set against an equally difficult political, cultural and social backdrop. It even turns into somewhat of a thriller midway.

Then tonight, I went to a regular screening of THE THING, which was also very good, but for completely different reasons. A good popcorn monster film that harkened back to Carpenter in many departments, yet added lots of new stuff.

Two very different films in one day, but both with equal value for different reasons.

That's why I love movies!! smile

Oh, and I loved how THE THING finally displayed a Hollywood film that DARED to use real, Norwegian actors and to let them speak their language properly throughout the whole film!

    VELDIG BRA!

    For Odin!
    I am extremely serious.

I watched The Woman in Brown, a film based on the book The Burning Bush. It dealt with a trial of Jews who were accused of murdering a young girl. The low budget offering starred silent film star Conrad Nagel and was directed by Billy Wilder's brother Lee.

The score for Alleged was the best part of the film. Even though it was sentimental syrup I found that by seeing the film it enhanced my understanding of the soundtrack.

    The Adventures of Pluto Nash

One of the most loathed movies of all time with an imdb rating of 3.6, but I found it rather enjoyable. Sure the female lead is more about looks than acting ability but Eddie Murphy and Randy Quaid were both entertaining.

    Rating: 6 outta 10

It's dreadful IMO but Powell's score is pretty good.

  3. Just saw JIG, the documentary about the Irish dancing world championship held in Glasgow in 2010.

I thought Irish dancing would be more fun to watch. Instead it's all about a bunch of super over-worked tightwound kids and their cash-strapped parents (one little dress costs $2500?) fretting and fretting over a competition where winning is everything. Only one little girl in this movie demonstrated that taking any place other than first was not the end of life as we know it, and she took second.

Anyone with an aversion to those horrid wigs is advised to stay far away from this.

Doyle's score was used mostly to convey tension in the bewildering scenes where you watched the contestants getting their scores (those scenes were just a massive string of numbers - I always had to wait to watch the contestants reactions to see if they had scored well or not), so the music was not very enjoyable at all. I wanted fun Irish music from this film! From Doyle, during the competition, I don't care - but I got NONE. Sheesh.

    Not recommended.
  4. One thing that put me off listening to eben clips was that it WOULD be full of Irish jig music!

I have the REEL MUSIC film music compilation that they did, including the TREASURE ISLAND score. Good stuff, although in smaller doses. This kind of music can easily grate after a while. I believe Paddy Maloney is the main composer of the gang?

  5. Shrek 2

my favorite of all the Shrek films (followed by 1 and 4), I love Donkey and Puss in this one, the humor's excellent plus the movie's elevated to an astonishing level once we hear and see "I Need a Hero" in context. It still sends shivers down my spine, Gregson-Williams score mixed in between such a wonderful song. Brilliant

    8 out of 10
