On second thought it might be (and take this with a HUGE caveat) that the film just might work in the intended context of a double-bill in much the same way that Zucker-Abrams-Zucker films work: if you shoot off enough silliness per second, at some point the law of averages states you'll hit a live one... and with a never-ending barrage at some point you'll wear down your audience into simply havnig to go along with it.

Anyway. Stay clear of the single-film release version.

See the Tarantino feature instead, DEATH PROOF, a highly inferior and worthier film.

Don't you mean a highly superior and worthier film, Demetris?

As for Planet Terror, I thought it was big fun... in that 'don't take me seriously, I'm only a spoof' kind of way. The gore effects are second to none, only the new Rambo does better in that respect. I did not expect something so entertaining, yet so unbelievably silly, where else can you see a chick with a machine gun where her leg used to be?

And Death Proof blew me away, I even prefer it over Planet Terror... kudos to Tarantino who goes all out on the WOW-factor. I sure wished my seat had a seatbelt when I watched this because I felt I was gonna crash & burn any time.

    Kagemusha (Shadow Warrior)
Kurosawa! In color! A petty thief is made to impersonate the slain warlord to fool the enemies and provide his clansmen some hope. The film is mostly about how he fills his tough role and what happens once the secret is exposed. Quite enjoyable but a little on the longer side (3 hrs). I prefer the other Kurosawa films to this one.

Tell No One (Ne le dis à personne)
2006 French movie by director Guillaume Canet. Cool thriller! The protagonist (Francois Cluzet) resembles Dustin Hoffman a lot. Eight years after his wife has been murdered, more bodies are discovered and Cluzet is once again a suspect. But the mystery deepens when he realizes that his wife may not be dead at all.

Ever since I saw her in DIVING BELL AND BUTTERFLY, the actress who plays the wife has been pretty close to the top of my 'must invite for a weekend away sometime' list.

on tell no one: i haven't seen it but my g/f has absolutely fallen in love with the man-figure of the film, the film itself the story line and the love story, she can't stop telling me that that man is an angel, everything a woman ever needs and how she cried endless rivers of tears upon watching the film over and over again.

Now i am sure it doesn't interest me the slightest wink :P

Sure! She's a cutie! I also like the one who played his sister (Marina Hands).
I haven't seen Diving Bell & Butterfly yet. Maybe this week.

And D, it's easy to see how the Cluzet character is a slam-dunk case for women fans.
While the plot is very Hollywood-ish it's the execution that puts this apart. Watch it man!

    Die Hard II: Die Harder

An excellent sequel to a classic film. This was the last 'true' Die Hard film IMO, even though the next two sequels were very good in their own rights.

And of course Kamen's score works wonders. It proves that a film like this is much better off having an intelligent action score rather than power anthems.

Agreed! I love this one the most!
I didn't know it was also called Die Harder. I lost an ice-cream bet on that one.

I love these films, like James Bond or Star Wars I can watch them again and again, I even enjoyed the ridiculously OTT last Die Hard film ( title escapes me ), stupendous fun but the first two are undoubtedly the best.

    Changeling (2008)
Pretty good even if it's as long as a Bolly. Clint Eastwood's score relies on just 1 theme. It's very simplistic and effective but when you hear it over and over it starts to irritate. Just get a real composer, dude!

yep, I was surprised how much heart this movie truly has
another sign of how a trailer can appear to be presenting a totally different movie

the biggest trailer misconception is still Nanny McPhee, a totally comedic trailer, but what a magical movie punk

    Stalin's Wife

A 4 part Russian TV-series. Living in an ex-communist country I'm very much interested in the topic of communism and terror. Although this film was about the life of the dictator's wife we could get a pretty decent picture of the mechanism of terror. And anyway, I was not familiar with the family life of Stalin. But the music was terrible! The composer used cheap synthesizers and it sounded like some pop music from the beginning of the 80's; totally ruined some scenes.

What an incredible boring film. The action scenes are a huge disappointment and the bad guy is completely uninteresting. Not even close to Casino Royale. sleep
