  1. Well there's a good chance that Coulais does what John Barry does in CORALINE better than John Barry too!

I haven't posted in this thread for a while so here goes...

    Boy A
Brit film from 2007 about a child convict who gets sent to juvie for murdering a school kid. Years later he is released and tries to start a new life with a new identity. He finds love, a job and redemption of some sorts until his dark past catches up with him. This was a fine watch with a cast of little known characters.

    Memoirs of an Invisible Man
Chevy Chase, Sam Neil and Darryl Hannah. Fun movie! And oh boy, Darryl Hannah is soooo pretty! lick

    Gideon's Daughter
Fantastic! I got the soundtrack by Adrian Johnston and I'm absolutely bonkers over it. I saw that Netflix had the movie for instant-watch and saw it last night. Whoah! This is an excellent film. Bill Nighy plays a high-profile celebrity publicist whose relationship with his daughter (Emily Blunt) deteriorates and he finds comfort in the companionship of Miranda Richardson who's grieving over her son's loss. Written and directed by Stephen Poliakoff. I need to check more of his movies. Emily Blunt is gorgeous! Miranda Richardson is lovely. Bill Nighy is super smooth!
The score is utterly awesome! Take a bow Adrian Johnston! Friggin' love it! punk

    The Terminator

Having watched Salvation recently (and I seem to be the only one on the planet who actually liked it), I wanted to revisit where it all started.

A classic obviously, a wonderfully seedy film with some very old school special effects. The one thing that did stand out was the music... and how truly awful it was. In some scenes it worked, particularly the low growling to represent the unstoppable nature of the Governator, but in the action scenes it was like having Keyboard Cat score the scenes!

    Aw gee, Steven! slant

Well, i still happen to think tit fits the movie, the action and the time it was made in to a -t-.
The -t- for Terminator, obviously! cool

And I appreciate that. I'm sure back in 1984 it wouldn't have sounded so... well, dated. But some of those action scenes have the most amateurish cringe-worthy scoring I've ever heard. I do appreciate that synths work in favour of Terminator movies (I do like Fiedel's second score), but many of the scenes scored in The Terminator really do sound like Keyboard Cat!

it's true, the first and second score for the Terminator movies are different, the first one is now dated, but I believe the second is not

I can maaaybe understand why people like the first score, it certainly gives a very particular feel to the movie. But personally I just find it unbearably bad.

Pretty good movie! Goldsmith's score fit very well.

It's actually one of the few films I can think of where the score features so prominently, it's basically everwhere, to the point it becomes more important than the actors or the story. I believe Goldsmith's score is an important principle character in itself and so it helps the movie in every respect.

That being said, I know what I'll be watching tomorrow!!

    The Hidden Fortress
Kurosawa! Toshiro Mifune! Yet another excellent film! Mifune plays a general who has to escort a princess through enemy lines to safe harbor as she is the only surviving member of their royalty. He's joined by two bumbling peasants who provide much of the entertainment by way of their frequent bickering and numerous attempts to run away with the gold being transported.
Kurosawa's films are a real treat-- they have stories that keep you absorbed and a fine visual style that makes you want to check every one of his works.
The dvd also has a short commentary by George Lucas about how this movie inspired Star Wars. cool

    Terminator: Salvation

Impressive, plain and simple. One of the best ACTION films I´ve watched. The action stuff is violent, rough, metallic, incredibly well shot and edited (you always know what´s going on!) and best of all: even if the film is an action set piece after an action set piece, it never gets over the top. The CGI work is awesome, the post judgement day atmosphere is great, the main actors do a good job (luckily, no jokes between them) and we have a lot of tributes to the first two films (not only the special appearance of Fiedel´s Theme).
I have to eat my own words I´m afraid. I don´t remember what I said when I found out that McG (not McDouche anymore) was directing it but I have to take it back. All of it.

    The Hangover
I have not laughed that hard in a long time. I missed many lines of the film due to the roaring laughter of the audience. Good stuff.
Zach Galifianakis was hilarious, as well as the rest of the cast.
    I'm still laughing biggrin
