Then I guess average Indian looks are really exotic and attractive to me as a generic western boy. shame

Le Cercle Rouge (The Red Circle)
Ultra cool 1970s heist movie! Starring Alain Delon, Gian Maria Volonte and Yves Montand. Very well etched out characters. It's amazing how the heist scene had no dialogue or music but was top edge-of-the-seat stuff!

    Sounds great!
That's one for me to seek out! Love Delon, love Volonte, love Montand!

What the hell was this all about? A pretty generic revenge film without any plot to speak of.
Well, not any interesting plot to speak of at any rate.

Craig is gruffly mumbling his way through the coldest Bond performance to date (it's not bad. It IS however extremely unlikeable). There are some good set pieces. The action sequences are shot incoherently, confusingly and chaotic. I rarely got what was happening, but then I didn't care much either.
Olga Maffiamollenski does a surprisingly good Latina, though.

Still way better than the Brosnan ones though. But after the amazing Casino Royale (one of my favourite films ever), I feel we deserved something much better than this crap.

Haven't seen it yet. To be honest I'm not keen on Craig as bond, too dry and humourless. Hell, he doesn't even look English.

He's my favourite. Granted, I'm not really a fan of the other films... not my thing really.

It's too James Bourne / Jason Bond for my liking now.

And I can understand that. Many of the older ones and right into the Brosnan era are camp but fun films IMO.

I like the Bourne films but Bond used to be the trailblazer not the copier.

I even grew up with them (you know, ITV), but they've lost much of their appeal on me nowadays. Not being a Bond fan allows me to enjoy the Craig films without worrying too much about the direction of the character - of which I like where they've taken so far.

    Plus, Olga is FIIIIIIINE.

QoS is better than any of the Brosnan ones, I agree. And watching parts of A View to a Kill on tv the other day made me wonder whether my fond nostalgia for the Moore films is misplaced.

I didn't think QoS was terrible at all. Granted, it doesn't feel much like a Bond film, but neither did Casino Royale, which was excellent. It has its moments and I look forward to getting it on Blu.

Solace better than Goldeneye? Since I love Goldeneye, logically I should like Solace even more. No really, I don't know what to expect, after reading some reviews and comments. I think it's great they wanted a follow-up to Casino Royale, which was a good Bond, but I keep hearing the movie is just a mess and a Bourne-wannabe. I will take it on good faith then and take it for what it is. And I personally think Craig does a fine job portraying this iconic character.

Will be renting it, not immediatly buying it just in case...

    Iron Man

Cool, slick and modern, Fun, witty ('xcept for the obvious cliches), energetic and very entertaining, still i fail to understand how everyone suggests that it needed a different kind of score. IT CERTAINLY DESERVED A BETTER ONE than that pile of crap* but not on a very different style, imo. Say, if they brought CHRIS YOUNG to move into GHOST RIDER territories, that'd be uber-cool! But if i saw that film with a John William-esque leitmotif approach, i am sure i'd giggle heavily wink

    * Interesting side-note: about halfway down that film, i asked my babe what did she think of the accompanying music. She rushed to ask me my opinion first, but i said i'll tell you afterwards, just tell me what YOU think. Her answer (note: she's a musicologist and a pianist, but doesn't know a lot about or deal particularly with film scores) verifies the obvious: i like the style, it fits that of the fun pop-corn movie's, but why does it have to sound so childishly simplistic as if it was intended for an 80's nintendo game?

Totally agree. Julio Medem (the director) is my favourite spanish director. Some accuse him of making "the greatest movie ever made" everytime he directs a movie. And they may be right, but IMO he does such a personal kind of cinema. Love every film he´s ever done, specially this one you mention.

Chris Young's title theme for Ghost Rider would have been great! Not a fan of the rest of the Ghost Rider score. But a John Williams styled superhero score certainly would have worked too. I'm not talking about Superman here but a more edgy Williams work instead of Williams 70's fantasy would have been just fine! But composers like Young, Beltrami, Shearmur, Debney and Silvestri would have provided the film with so much more than Djawadi's mess. The metal montage cues were simply AWFUL!

Any suggestion that Williams wouldn't be right to have scored a film like Iron Man would be plain daft.

I don't think the traditional leitmotif approach fits IRON MAN. The movie is fun and entertaining but departed from that style. Of course Djawadi's mess is a crap, that's not the point; the discussion here is musical style.

Indeed. I don't imagine Williams would actually do it even if asked, but I don't see that the style would have presented any problems. Actually it's disappointing that people have become so accustomed to RC-style dreck that they think it's the right approach.

I thought I'd have some fun with this IRON MAN business and put some orchestral music over one of the action sequences. Here are two examples featuring the music of Alan Silvestri's ERASER.

This version features a sample of "Kruger's Escape"
    SAMPLE #1

And a more cheeseball version with a heroic main theme!
    SAMPLE #2

The music mix is really loud to drown out Djawadi's crappy score!

    Enjoy!

A theme would be good indeed, but a traditionally orchestral leitmotif approach led by horns and trumpets on an army dealer dude who eats cheezburgers and dresses on shiny cool fast and the furious-esque metallic gear going killing bad guys, isn't exactly the greatest marriage, imo.

But orchestral doesn't mean it has to sound like Max Steiner. Demolition Man is orchestral. Do you seriously think an RC approach is a better fit for Iron Man than a kick-ass Goldenthal orchestral work (yes, with leitmotifs)?

Oops, looks like I did. (No great fan of Ghost Rider myself, but Young could certainly have written a very good score for Iron Man.)
