Same here. I have nothing against the people, but lots of those disputable cultural differences made me loudly express my disturbance in the past and thus i was labeled by some, a racist. I just don't get it. Like i don't get eating cats and dogs and other pets or wearing painfully tight shoes to little girls so that when they get older and become adult women, they'll have small feet! Just to name a few.

Of course I don't have nothing against the people of our forum, i repeat, i don't want to be misunderstood. It's just that some practices feel too awkward for the world of 2009, to me, and i'd really like to discuss them some more, somewhere else, some time. smile

For one, the choral / vocal work is complex, well done and very effective, not something you hear everyday. Then there's the main theme and its variations. So much melody in a modern horror score that is accustomed to be full of meaningless noise and electric guitars' soundscapes, it's surely a PLUS point. Listen to THE UNBORN by Djawadi, a score for a very similar kind of movie and you'll understand i am sure. wink

The first half isn't really anything new... especially for Young. I'd rather listen to Exorcist of Emily Rose or Hellraiser if I want to hear Young at his best in this genre. There are some interested vocalizations for sure in "Cry of Love" but the whispering voices again have been done before... and much more effective in Goldsmith's The Final Conflict.

And just becuase Djawadi's score is crap doesn't make Young's any better!

It doesn't matter. Yes, Young is far more talented then the likes of Djawadi but The Uninvited seems rather generic for Young. I've heard it all before and he has done much, much better in the past!

Well, i think it matters. And i don't think that the UNINVITED is bad at all, even for Young's standards. I think it matters 'cause we are getting 80% crappy noise in this genre nowadays, and it's a genre that matters a lot to me ,personally. I always feel nice when i listen to such an "old-school" organic score smile

    DAVID HIRSCHFELDER - Australia

Comes along through too many different styles and abrupt, constant changes, from Lost ("Sarah Sees Nullah (After Daisy), "Mission Island Rescue", "Death Of Magarri"), to Arvo Part's fratres rips in "Sarah Begs For Nullah" for instance, Zimmerisms, Horner ("Reunion ") and everything and too much generic filler. However, the few powerful moments - such as the in-your face choral/orchestral ride of "Bombing Of Darwin" are very prominent and boldly-performed, despite being unoriginal. At least it's melodic, primarily orchestral and organic in general, which is welcomed. But nothing particularly impressive or special in the end.

I didn't say it was bad... I just don't find it interesting enough to call it GREAT! Again, I'd rather listen to some of Young's classic horror scores then return to The Uninvited.

Kissing couples, eating dogs, tight shoes (btw it's an ancient custom of China, not used these days) ... I'd like to discuss them too! It's interesting to think & discuss about cultural differences, different opinions.

Marco Beltrami & Marcus Trumpp - Mesrine: L'Instinct De Mor

Quite good if you're into Beltrami-sms! Very under the radar this 2008 score has went, and it has a lot of interestingly energetic and loud trademarked Beltrami action cues as well as lots of melodic moments in it and dark underscore.

Olivier I noticed that you listen to this score of the specific horror film a lot these days. You see there are many valid scores from this genre. I don't follow it but I know it from the guys here. Why don't you give them a try? Better not in you tube though. I have to agree that you don't get a good sound quality which in music on general is essential in order to enjoy.
