Timmer, be aware that I edited my last post. It turned out the documentary was incomplete. It stopped after clip 4, which is quite the bummer.

I own the Italian tv documentary La Musica Negli Occhi. It's a film well edited film including clips from various films and, if I remember correctly, some footage of Morricone recording a score. But I would not recommend this film to anyone; there's practically nothing special about it.

Well, to me that won't matter too much as I've seen it before but for others, yeah, it's a bummer! slant

Thanks for the compliments. Hopefully you'll become as dedicated a morriconian as me in time. Best wishes to you as well.

Just watched "Morricone Conducts Morricone" on the tv, a recording of a 2004 concert in Munich (performing the usual stuff) mixed with an interview. Very enjoyable.

An interview? Which DVD is this? I have this one and there's no interview in it.

Oops. Never mind. Didn't notice that you said TV.

    BAARIA

Any thoughts on this new score by Maestro Ennio Morricone? Does anyone have this score? I am quite unfortunate that i am not able to find this score in any nearby music stores. However, i am waiting for it to come to my city. As of now, i read some positive reviews about this score. I am curious to know about the thoughts and opinions of Maintitles members.

    Have a nice day! smile

I like it. Not a classic, but I like it a lot. There's some very strong material. You will probably have to order an import from Italy (or one of the soundtrack specialists in the US) - the Italian releases of Morricone scores don't seem to find their way around the world very well.

A lot of us have it and we've been talking about it in the now playing thread, Sunil. The score is simply beautiful, sweepingly melodic and romantic like only Ennio can deliver these days. Along with AGORA and DISTRICT 9, my favorite scores of the year so far.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

I like "Baaria" alot, though it's darker than I expected it to be. It has some great sweeping, heartwarming and nostalgic themes, plus a wonderful, upbeat march (similar to his famous piece "Anger and tarantella"). I rate it ****½.

Listening to Baaria now for a second time, what a great CD. I don't have many Morricone CDs at all so I bought this one for that reason - of course also on the strength of the film's trailer music and the Amazon.com mistake (got it real cheap smile). It's really great, and it's also a very warm and lush recording so that's a plus, too.
But why did they put dialogue in that first track? I thought that was more an American phenomenon...

Oh! yeah, you are absolutely right, Southall! in this world, there is no perfection. In fact, we have to eradicate the word "perfection" from dictionary itself. I know that philosophy behind that. However, i am quite satisfied with that collection.

I agree with James that there is no perfect collection. All the more so if we speak about Morricone. Even if the collection includes one or two tracks from a certain soundtrack, you can be sure that there are at least another 3-4 brilliant pieces on that same soundtrack that is missing from the collection.
Collecting Morricone is not an easy task but a very fulfilling one.

I am listening to this now. My goodness, what a lovely opening! Lovely strings and haunting Mideastern-esque male vocals. Why on Earth did they have to add sound effects and dialogue towards the end?! Listening to the second track now, very classic Morricone with a little Kamen influence. Great stuff!
