The Technomancer

Olivier Deriviere

" Sadly, it will not be remembered as his other efforts "

Written by Thomas Glorieux - Review of the download only release

In the end it's all what one perhaps wanted. Sure, come to Derivière for originality. But when eclectic ideas take over from melody and strength, you know it ain't gonna cut it. The Technomancer will appeal to some, but I doubt if even fans of Olivier Derivière will be open for this. At least it's not for me. Too bad considering his repertoire so far.

For originality, there's no one more suitable than Olivier Derivière.
It's diverse, and somehow in all the eclectic'ness, there's an idea behind it.
The piano and guitar (or the instruments that mimic it) show a distinct color that goes smoothly with the electronics.
At least there's a theme on board, makes it all the easier to remember it by.
And the Blade Runner effect in "On Duty" gives a lovely nostalgic feeling too.
The lovely final track suddenly shows heart and melody in a tantalizing piano solo.

It aint' Remember Me or Assassin's Creed, that's for sure. No orchestral grandeur either, the environment asked for more electronic music, and its occasional moments of soundscape.
After a while it's beginning to irritate, you want more than just the sound or the bouncy'ness.
Sad to say it, but it goes on forever as well, a shorter selection would have sufficed because 76 minutes is pushing it.
