The Delta Force

" Delta Force joins the party of the synthesisers "

Written by Thomas Glorieux - Review of the limited release

Chuck Norris and Lee Marvin star together in The Delta Force, an action movie from the 80's that had upcoming composer Alan Silvestri in their ranks. This soundtrack proves to be too much to handle, simply because it loses interest after a while. The enormous length makes it a challenge to sit through, and it should have been shortened with at least 30 minutes. The main theme, a catchy melody is fun for a while and totally the opposite from the rest of the material. The theme is of course omnipresent, opening the score in "Main Title", dictating the pace in the huge "Algiers" cue, and ends the album after a dramatic conclusion in "Hostages Arrive Home and End Credits". Mind you, the transition from the dramatic material to the main theme is awesome in the final track. Definitely making it the highlight of the entire score.

The rest is definitely influenced by The Abyss, or influenced Cameron's soundtrack perhaps more than expected. There's ton of material here that could pass easily enough for The Abyss ("Terrorists Board Jet", "Hebrew Ring", "More Terrorists"). And while the score is a bit of a long stretch, there's not even a lot of action material on board to make it more entertaining (just like the film it seems). This dramatic material is quite hypnotizing and combines the sounds of Flight of the Navigator and again The Abyss. All in all The Delta Force is fun for a Silvestri fan, but overtly long as well. Too much for its own good, and will function better if they ever trim it down.
