Judas Kiss

Christopher Young

" Kiss the versatile Young why don't ya "

Written by Thomas Glorieux - Review of the regular release

Judas Kiss is Christopher Young at probably his most diverse. It's not that zany nor is it a representation of him being experimental. It's jazz and mambo with a little bit of eccentric. Aka, the perfect escape for you horror listeners out there. And if you're looking for horror, then suites of Species and Hellraiser will interest you perhaps instead. For me, Judas Kiss is not really my cup of tea, but I admire the quality of it. To please the inner score fan in me, I was so ready to go to the end with the bonus cues. Alas the performance of the orchestra leaves much to be desired. The suite of Hellraiser is even downright horrible, multiple times not even reaching its tone during the louder moments. If this was the best they could come up with, it feels rather cheap and should never have been released here on CD.

Hello versatile Young, what will it be this time? Smooth jazz, some organ, some funky twists? Okay, go for it!
Of course mambo is versatile too, and "Coco-la-Mamba" has enough moves to seduce you.
It's a smorgasbord of styles, and you have to accept the melange of it. It's not like say there's a consistency in melodies.
Diversity is one thing, but accepting its constant presence another. Take me for instance, jazz is not my cup of tea.
The suite of "Hellraiser / Hellbound" is appalling, an amateurish performance of the Butler Symphony Orchestra (sad really.)
