In My Dreams goes about 2 individuals dreaming of finding the right partner. After tossing a coin in a wishing well, they dream of finding each other. However, as legend goes they only have a week to find one another to turn that dream into a reality. In My Dreams is a soothing dreamy experience composed by William Ross, perfectly balancing between the dreams and the subtle romance that is blossoming. There's no lush orchestral romance here, but soft whispers of things that could come. The guitar and the piano never fully unleash their power, and in one way it is not necessary at all. However, this somehow makes the experience slightly forgettable at times too. Don't get me wrong, the music's lovely and extremely relaxing, but it never unleashes a muscle and thereby remains a bit on the background. Tracks like "In My Dreams Theme", "First Dream", "Second Dream" and "Third Dream" are lovely, but after a while you have heard them by now.
It's only in the final track where you're realizing where these dreams have led us. A bit more upbeat in the beginning, and containing a slightly more confident main theme at the end, "This is Real" closes the score as it began. It's tough to grade In My Dreams though, considering it does everything right for the source. But somehow there's missing something that could make it special. The quality's here, but perhaps the source didn't allow for overblown sentimentality. Nothing wrong with that of course, but it keeps the musical score from becoming that something extra that differentiates it from the rest. Lovely but rather quickly forgotten too.
