Earth to Echo

Joseph Trapanese

" That's what we should call it: solid "

Written by Thomas Glorieux - Review of the download only release

Earth to Echo is the kind of movie that I like to see. An adventure film, according to the trailer decently acted and with a flair of adventure, fantasy and drama, perfectly enhanced by the strong trailer music and ditto build up. Basically my cup of tea. And it did good enough at the box office. For Joseph Trapanese the perfect opportunity to get himself noticed after the co composed Oblivion. And with The Raid 2 and now Earth to Echo, it's the perfect getaway. And Earth to Echo is fun, nothing more. It's got the usual material, the enjoyable material and the background material. Never fading away in obscurity but never becoming memorable as well. Just the perfect antidote for a background experience in the car or at home.

The theme is simple but enjoyable (hell we should be kissing the stars that there is a theme to speak off) and gets several noticeable performances (most specifically "Echo" and "Not Kids Anymore"). But the most memorable moment arrives when there's a dash of adventure and fantasy erupting. That's for "Looking Home" (briefly) and "Here it Goes". A part of the trailer music crops up as well ("You Understood Us") while John Carpenter vibes appear in the brief but cool ending of "What is It?". The rest is a bit more mysterious, but though nothing earth shattering it never fades away entirely.

Perhaps there's a lack of extra excitement, but the brief moments do their best to elevate the experience. Again Earth to Echo is solid and entertaining, and I see it working perfectly inside the picture.

Favorite Moment - Here it Goes (0.12 - 1.36)
It's fun, it's fantasy music
