An Almost Perfect Affair

Georges Delerue

" Care to dance with me Georges? "

Written by Thomas Glorieux - Review of the limited release

An Almost Perfect Affair was released on CD for the first time this year, and it's a typical and lovely Delerue effort alright. The delight by which you dance through the score is evident by the countless waltzes you encounter on the disc. The opening theme is one, the wonderful "Gambling on Love" is another, and various other cues do nothing more than set down the romantic tone of a couple in love. Even the brief but heroic "Bicycle Thief" and "Kidnapping Maria" are brief highlights and show Delerue in his more adventurous spirit. The only dark cue is the brief "The Screening" and doesn't interrupt the listening experience. So though the sound quality is not perfect (it's good but there's a small bit of hiss if you go loud), An Almost Perfect Affair is once again Delerue loveliness, and again a sign that he was a master of memorable romantic themes.

Again wonderful waltz like theme as opening track, hints of Something Wicked This Way Comes, Interlude and various others
The waltzes keep on coming, another gorgeous one in "Gambling on Love".
Even the "Bicycle Thief" is heroic, not dark or suspenseful but adventurous and entertaining.
