    THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF “BACK TO THE FUTURE” AND OTHER 1985 GREAT FILM SCORES TO BE THE FOCUS AT THE NINTH EDITION OF FIMUCITÉ

    The legendary Maurice Jarre and Georges Delerue, main honored composers at the 9th Tenerife International Film Music Festival, to be held from July 3rd to 11th, 2015.

    Jean-Michel Bernard and Philippe Sarde, first composers who have confirmed their presence at FIMUCITÉ 9.

    Santa Cruz de Tenerife, December 19th, 2015.- The Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ), which will be held on July 3rd - 11th, 2015, sponsored by Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, Canary Islands Government and Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, will pay tribute to the release of the 30th anniversary of emblematic works such as “Back to the Future” or “Silverado”, as well as to the French film composers.

    The composer and FIMUCITÉ’s director Diego Navarro, will conduct again the Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife and the Tenerife Film Choir at the monographic concerts devoted to these two main themes, which will be held on July 10th and 11th at Auditorio de Tenerife "Adán Martín".

    FIMUCITÉ has scheduled on July 10th the concert “The French Connection”, which will pay tribute to the most celebrated French composers, such as the late Maurice Jarre, Academy Award winner for “Lawrence of Arabia”, “Doctor Zhivago”, “Passage to India”, also nominated for films such as “Witness” and “Gorillas in the Mist”, and Georges Delerue, who won an Oscar for his music for “A Little Romance” and author of legendary scores for François Truffaut’s filmography such as “Day for Night”, “Jules et Jim” or “The Last Metro”.

    The renowned French composer and pianist Jean-Michel Bernard, author of the music of Michel Gondry’s films “Rewind, Please”, “The science of Sleep” or “Human Nature”, and Philippe Sarde, Academy award nominated for Roman Polanski’s “Tess” in 1981, are the first confirmed guests of the festival. Some of their scores will be performed in the concert “The French Connection”, which will also include themes from other great French authors such as Alexandre Desplat (“The King’s Speech”, “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”, “Argo”).

    Under the motto “Back in Time, 1985 Live”, the closing gala of FIMUCITÉ 9, on July 11th, 2015, will be devoted to the celebration of an unrepeatable year for film music, with unforgettable scores such as “Back to the Future”, “The Goonies”, “Legend”, “The Purple Color”, “Cocoon” or “Witness”.

    Among the parallel activities of the festival, it is worth noting the wide selection of François de Roubaix’s films programmed by Filmoteca Canaria. This French composer, author of scores such as “The Samurai”, “The Old Gun” or “Poker d’As” and who had a special relationship with the Canary Islands, died in Tenerife in November 1975.

    On the other side, FIMUCITÉ will hold the third edition of FIMUCINEMA, a competitive section that recognizes the best musical score for an audiovisual work, in the categories of long feature film, documentary, short film, and TV show. The registration to submit works produced after January 1st, 2013 is already open until May 15th, 2015, and the rules of the competition and the registration form will soon be available at FIMUCITÉ’s official website, www.fimucité.com.

    PASCAL GAIGNE AND ZACARIAS M. DE LA RIVA, GUESTS COMPOSERS AT FIMUCITÉ 9

    - Both of them have been awarded by the Spanish Film Music Critics Award as best composer and best national score, respectively.
    - The awards will be presented at the Ninth edition of the Tenerife International Film Music Festival.


    Santa Cruz de Tenerife, March 17h, 2015 - Composers Pascal Gaigne and Zacarías M. de la Riva, winners of the IX Spanish Film Music Critics Awards, organised by the website Scoremagacine.com, in the categories of Best National Composer for his music for the film “Loreak” and Best Spanish Score 2014 for “Autómata”, respectively, will attend Fimucité 9. This event, which will be held from July 3rd to 11th, 2015, is sponsored by Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, Canary Islands Government and the City Council of Santa Cruz.

    Both composers will receive the awards during one of the most important events at Fimucité 9, the symphony concert “The French Connection”, which will be held on Friday July 10th at Auditorio de Tenerife "Adán Martín". This concert will pay tribute to the most celebrated French film music composers and will include two symphonic suites of Pascal Gaigne and Zacarías M. de la Riva`s awarded scores.

    The closing gala, entitled “Back in time, 1985 Live”, on July 11th, also at the auditorium Symphony Hall, will be devoted to that year’s memorable scores, including the music of legendary films such as “Back to the Future”, “The Goonies”, “Legend”, “The Color Purple”, “Cocoon”, or “Witness”. Tickets can be purchased at the auditorium box office and through its website (www.auditoriodetenerife.com).

    The Tenerife International Film Music Festival (FIMUCITÉ) will be held from July 3rd to 11th, 2015.     Pascal Gaigne

    Born in 1958, Pascal Gaigne is a French professional composer living in San Sebastian since 1990. He studied music composition at the University of Pau, in France, with Guy Maneveau, and at the National Conservatory of Toulouse. He is a versatile composer who works in different fields, including the movie industry, theater, dance and concerts.

    With a filmography of more than 80 long feature films, short films and documentaries, he has cooperated with filmmakers such as Victor Erice (“El sol del membrillo”), Daniel Sánchez Arévalo (“Azul oscuro casi negro”, “Gordos”), Icíar Bollaín (“Flores de otro mundo”), Montxo Armendáriz (“Silencio roto”), or Gracia Querejeta (“Siete mesas de billar francés”), among others.


    Zacarías M. de la Riva

    Zacarías Martínez de la Riva was born in Barcelona in 1972. Unlike most film composers, he didn’t study music at a young age. He started studies as an engineer in Telecommunications in Barcelona. An unfortunate personal event made him change paths completely. He arrived in Boston in 1992 where he attended Berklee College of Music accomplishing a dual major in Composition and Film Scoring.

    Back in Spain, he started to collaborate with young directors and he composed his first scores for short films and his first feature film “Jaizkibel” (directed by Ibón Cormenzana).

    In 2000, he started to work for people like Juan Bardem, Lucio Godoy and Roque Baños as an orchestrator. In 2004 he composed the first Tadeo Jones short, which won the Goya Award for best Animation short. That year he also composed the music for “The Nun”, “Beneath Still Waters” and “Spectre”.

    In 2006, he met Elías Querejeta and worked for him in different documentaries: “Noticias de una Guerra”, “Cerca de ti Ojos”, and “Las Catedrales del Vino”. Since then, he has been continuously working, achieving a great success with “Tad the Explorer”, nominated for the Goya, the Gaudí and the CEC Awards in the category of best original score.

    In 2014, he worked in his first American coproduction, “Automata”, a science fiction movie directed by Gabe Ibáñez and starring Antonio Banderas.
